Rise and Shine, Summer Grove!

Book By: Dan D’Amario

Pages: 24 pgs
Cast: 3 m, 3 w

Pat White and Pat Gray have come to the local television set of Rise and Shine, a morning news/entertainment show, to tape a public service announcement for their groups' national convention of crocheters, called the Happy Hookers. When an accident knocks the young, ambitious and somewhat egotistical news anchors out of commission just after the show begins, the two elderly Pats are called on as emergency replacements. Laughs abound as they struggle to read the news, discuss their passion for hooking, and deal with the two anchors whose inhibitions have been affected by the accident. And it's all live on Rise and Shine, Summer Grove!

Behind The Scenes

Playwright Dan D'Amario Talks About

"Rise and Shine, Summer Grove!"

Q: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS PLAY?

A: While waiting to do a brief television promo for an upcoming play, I, naturally, started thinking about what would happen if the anchors were incapacitated.

Q.: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PART OR LINE IN THE PLAY?

A.: "The Giants. uh. uh. fe-fi-fo-fummed the Dodgers." It always amuses me to hear what the sports people come up with to describe the meaningless baseball scores.

Q.: WHERE DO THE CHARACTERS COME FROM? ARE THEY BASED ON PEOPLE YOU KNOW?

A.: The theatre festival chairperson and I sitting at an anchor desk to video a play promo, early in the morning, half awake.

Q.: WHAT DID YOU TRY TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS PLAY?

A.: Describe a humorous "fifteen minutes of fame" fantasy moment.

Q.: ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO SAY ABOUT IT?

A.: Much of the information about crocheting came verbatim from a website discussing the craft. If you didn't know what they were describing .
