Icarus is our school's theatre production for our regional, state, and national festival circuits. It offers a broad ranges of dynamic roles for a large ensemble of performers, and we found many opportunities for creative design work that allow us to tell the complex-but-linear story in a visually breathtaking way.

The involved students found the themes from this Classic Greek myth to be relevant to their contemporary experiences. The relationships and power dynamics are well-crafted and honest, and - though many already know how the story is going to end - the foreshadowing is present and not so overt as to tip the hand of the storytellers.

This is an excellent choice for a production team who's excited to sink their teeth into a variety of complex design tasks and an ensemble who is excited to share the load of honest, genuine storytelling.

Icarus became a favorite of my cast. It is a challenging piece that allows for great work in character development. It lends itself to stage pictures and opportunities to use features of Greek theatre. This is a strong ensemble piece that provides opportunities to use bodies and movement to extend the message. The playwright and Eldridge were wonderful about cuts for time and content for student use! We won our subsection and section competitions with overwhelming judge's preference. We continued on to the state festival and earned a star rating! Highly recommend!

The Greek Myth of Icarus is a tale of love and forgiveness; of hubris; of the inner drive for flight that exists in all of us.  Our Theatre 3 & 4 Honors class took on this Greek tragedy and has taken flight exploring various realms of theatre from stage combat to puppetry to ensemble work! Artistically, Icarus has a plethora of opportunities for creativity and ensemble work.
