The Breckenheimers are a colorful but loving family celebrating Christmas with a unique hillbilly flair all their own. As our story begins, we flashback to the day Poppa delivered some very exciting news to Mama, his parents and his children Bucky, Queazy, Myra Jean and Lindy. He has just been promoted to the Assistant to the Junior Assistant Manager at the pickled egg plant owned by Garver Goobler. Poppa even gets to help Goobler with a "special" project Christmas morning. But the family's happiness is tempered by Mama's uneasiness with the motives of Goobler. Things become even more complicated when three orphans enter the Breckenheimers' lives. Their problem sets young Bucky off on a challenge that will change his view of the real meaning of Christmas forever!

Behind The Scenes

PLAYWRIGHT KENNY BLADE

TALKS ABOUT "BUCKY SAVES CHRISTMAS"

Q: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THE PLAY?

A: The inspiration came from the varied and sometimes downright humorous holiday traditions that I saw within my family growing up. It occurred to me that, though everyone honored the holidays in his/her own way, the underlying foundation that tied us all together was our love for one another. No matter your background, "Peace on Earth, Goodwill toward men" is a common thread in us all.

Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OR LINE IN THE PLAY?

A: The line that Paul speaks as one of the three spirits hits home for me. He says to Mr. Goobler, "I'll bet your mum is really proud of you."

Q: WHY?

A: I just found it striking that no matter who you are, how your mother views what you have become is important to everyone.

Q: WHERE DO THE CHARACTERS COME FROM?

A: A multitude of interactions and experiences mixed with a great deal of exaggeration.

Q: ARE THEY BASED ON PEOPLE YOU KNOW?

A In some cases, yes. Other characters just made me smile as I created them. I would never admit to which ones are based on real people.

Q: WHAT DID YOU TRY TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS PLAY?

A: I wanted to have the audiences walk away from the performances feeling as though they had been given the greatest gift we can give each other this side of heaventhe gift of laughter. I hope that those who see this play performed as well as those who perform it can take from it the simple message that we are all bound by the common thread of needing one another. No matter how different your family seems at times, they are just that: YOUR FAMILY. That in itself makes them special.

Q: ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO ADD?

A: Speaking specifically to those who might consider performing "Bucky" . I have taken great care to create a script that makes rehearsals as enjoyable as the actual performances. Bringing humor to the stage creates a special bond that leaves those involved connected with the feeling that they have accomplished something truly special.
